The Federation of Andhra Pradesh Teachers’ Organisations (FAPTO) has urged the School Education Department to grant Earned Leave (EL) to teachers conducting special and remedial classes for students who failed the 2026 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations during summer vacation. The request was made in a formal representation submitted to Director of School Education Thameem Ansariya on Saturday.
FAPTO stated that teachers are complying with departmental orders to conduct remedial classes but are doing so during their scheduled vacation period. The federation recommended that special residential remedial classes be held for girls in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas and for boys in Model Schools at mandal headquarters to improve attendance, noting that many failed students face social and economic barriers to participation.
The federation also called for written directives regarding the 'Badi Pilustondi' enrolment drive, after alleging that oral instructions were issued to headmasters and teachers. FAPTO warned that continuous deployment of teachers during vacations without formal leave entitlements amounts to de facto abolition of vacation periods, suggesting a review of the current system.
The representation was signed by key FAPTO leaders, including State General Secretary S. Chiranjeevi and Chairman L. Sai Nivas. The department is expected to respond to the federation's recommendations in the coming days.
