An elderly couple, Shanta Rajayi and Bhairu Rajayi, were assaulted and hospitalized with fractures in Belagavi on Saturday after neighbors accused them of killing a pet dog. The attackers, identified as Sugandha Lad and her son Nandu Lad, allegedly carried out the assault over the animal's death.
The victims denied any involvement in the dog's death and filed a complaint at the Police Commissioner’s office. They were later taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Police have registered a case against Sugandha and Nandu Lad based on the complaint. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are reviewing evidence to establish the sequence of events.
The couple remains under medical care, while the police are expected to question the accused and witnesses in the coming days.
