Delhi Reports 64 Crimes Against Foreigners in 2024, Highest Among Union Territories

Delhi reported 64 cases of crimes against foreigners in 2024, the highest among all Union Territories, according to data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) on May 6, 2026. The number is slightly higher than the 63 cases recorded in 2023 and up from 40 in 2022, indicating a consistent upward trend over three years.
Union Territories collectively registered 67 such cases in 2024, with Delhi accounting for 64. Jammu and Kashmir reported two cases, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands one. Chandigarh, which had four cases in 2023, reported none in 2024. Among states, Maharashtra recorded the highest number at 41, followed by Karnataka with 32. Nationally, 257 cases were registered in 2024, up from 238 in 2023 and 192 in 2022.
The chargesheeting rate in Delhi for crimes against foreigners was 46% in 2024, below the national average of 68% and slightly under the Union Territory average of 45.5%. The NCRB stated that investigation timelines and jurisdictional challenges may contribute to delayed prosecutions. The bureau will present a detailed review to the Ministry of Home Affairs in the coming week.
