On Friday, 18 National Conference lawmakers met at MLA Qaisar Jamshid Lone’s house in Srinagar to draft a resolution after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s recent cabinet expansion, a move that critics say inflamed internal friction.
The resolution, signed by the group, called for the dismissal of advisor Nasir Aslam Wani and Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, adding to the pressure on Abdullah.
Six more MLAs joined via video link, bringing the total to 24, and represented both the Kashmir Valley and Jammu region.
The National Conference holds 41 of 90 seats and governs with Congress support; the revolt threatens its fragile coalition.
MP Aga Ruhullah also announced his resignation from Parliament and party membership, citing a strained relationship with the Abdullah family.
Abdullah may need to revisit the cabinet reshuffle or face a split that could topple his administration.
