Chennai Super Kings defeated Lucknow Super Giants by five wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday, successfully chasing 204 in 19.2 overs, their highest chase in six years. Urvil Patel blasted 65 off 23 balls, including eight sixes and a 13-ball fifty that matched the joint-fastest in IPL history, to power the run chase.
Opting to bat, Lucknow Super Giants posted 203/8 after Josh Inglis smashed 85 off 33 balls, propelling them to 91 in the powerplay. CSK's Jamie Overton struck three for 36 in the middle overs to restrict the scoring after the initial surge.
Patel, promoted up the order, took charge after Sanju Samson's early dismissal and Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad laid the foundation with a 97-run opening stand in the powerplay. After Patel's exit, Shivam Dube (22*) and Prashant Veer (18*) steered CSK home with four balls to spare, overcoming a brief LSG comeback.
The result lifts CSK to fifth on the IPL 2026 points table, keeping their playoff hopes alive. CSK are scheduled to face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their next match, while LSG face Mumbai Indians as both teams vie for a top-four finish.
