Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) has appealed to the Union government to sanction funds liberally for the comprehensive development of the temple city of Tirupati. At a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs, chaired by MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, TUDA Chairman and Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) ex-officio board member C. Divakar Reddy submitted a representation highlighting Tirupati’s growing infrastructure requirements.
TUDA has requested the Centre to earmark a portion of the funds allocated to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) for TUDA to facilitate trunk infrastructure development required for implementing the statutory master plans. The authority has also sought Central assistance for GIS mapping, establishment of the Tirupati City Economic Region (CER), and a 25% enhancement in allocations under existing schemes such as PMAY and AMRUT.
According to TUDA Chairman C. Divakar Reddy, Tirupati receives more than 2.7 crore pilgrims annually, and the city has missed out on flagship schemes such as PRASAD and HRIDAY in the past.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs will consider TUDA's representation and may take up the matter with the Union government for further action. The committee's recommendations are expected to be tabled in the upcoming session of Parliament.
