Sensex closed 308.5 points higher at 74,459.5, up 0.42% on a day that saw the Nifty rise 116.3 points to 23,053, up 0.51%. The rally was driven by a 1.2% jump in the Nifty IT index, with Wipro and Infosys posting 5.1% and 4.8% gains, respectively.
Wipro’s shares climbed 5.1% after analysts revised its Q3 revenue target to ₹17,500 crore, while Infosys added 4.8% on a revised EPS forecast of ₹12.50. IndiGo posted a 4.2% jump on a brokerage note that lifted its earnings outlook.
Despite the tech lift, the broader market lagged. The Nifty Bank index fell 223 points to 54,687, and the Nifty Midcap index slid 540.4 points to 57,301, a decline that left the midcap sector 0.9% lower than its 52‑week high.
Pharma and realty sectors outperformed, with the Nifty Pharma index up 7.3% and the Nifty Realty index up 6.5%. Midcap gains from Laurus Labs and Mankind Pharma offset heavier losses from Suzlon Energy, which fell 7.8% after a guidance cut.
Analysts project the Nifty to trade above 23,000 for the next session, with a potential 0.3% rally if IT momentum continues. Upcoming earnings from Infosys and Wipro in the third quarter will test the tech rally’s durability.
