Comedian Sunil Pal has said he was unprepared for a roast by fellow comedian Samay Raina during a recent episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show, which aired on World Laughter Day. Pal stated he was told he would be performing stand-up but instead faced a segment dominated by personal jabs from Raina.
The episode, also featuring Ranveer Allahbadia, drew mixed reactions online. While some viewers described the exchange as comedic banter, others criticized it for allegedly humiliating Pal. Some audience members also questioned the quality of Pal's own jokes, calling them outdated.
In an interview with Zee Switch, Pal said he was not informed in advance about the roast format. 'I was invited to perform stand-up, so I prepared for stand-up. But coincidentally, stand-up didn’t happen there — all this roasting happened instead,' he said, adding that he did not feel betrayed but was surprised by the turn of events.
The interaction comes amid prior friction between Pal and Raina. In 2025, Pal had called Raina a 'terrorist' following a controversial episode of Raina’s show India’s Got Latent, which led to legal complaints and the show’s removal. Raina later mocked Pal in his special Still Alive, referencing Pal’s advice to 'learn from Kapil Sharma'.
No official statement has been issued by the show's producers. Kapil Sharma has not commented on the segment. The next episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show is scheduled to air next Saturday.
