Police recovered the Rapido bike taxi at the site near Sector 51, Noida, where a city bus had collided with the vehicle, leaving Hrishita Lahon, 23, dead. The impact tore the bike’s frame, and emergency responders found her face‑to‑face with the bus, unable to breathe. Witnesses say the bus did not brake in time.
Lahon, a Guwahati native studying at Maitreyi College, was on an internship in Delhi when the fatal ride occurred. She had been commuting daily by metro, but opted for a Rapido that day after a sudden schedule change. Her mother, Arati Baruah Lahon, said she had been in the hospital for hours before succumbing.
Arati Baruah Lahon spoke to NDTV, expressing grief and asking for privacy. "We want to remember her as she was—a diligent student, respectful of parents," she said. She also clarified that she harbors no ill will towards the injured Rapido driver.
The Delhi Police have opened a case under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code, citing a possible negligent act by the bus operator. Transport authorities have requested documents from the bus company. The family has requested that media refrain from publishing personal details.
The investigation will review CCTV footage from the intersection and interview the bus driver. A formal complaint is expected to be filed against the bus company within the next 48 hours.
