L&T’s order book leapt 27% year‑on‑year to ₹7.79 lakh crore, West Asia accounting for 37% of the total, according to the company’s Project Ceres event. Shares hovered close to the 52‑week high, reflecting a cautious excitement about the firm’s pipeline.
The lift in the order book is largely driven by energy projects, which made up 34% of the first‑quarter inflows for FY27, and by a burgeoning green‑ammonia segment that alone contributed 31%. “We are seeing a strong uptick in green energy demand, especially in West Asia,” said L&T’s project director.
However, the company warned that persistent labour shortages and logistics bottlenecks could slow execution. “Workers are increasingly moving to West Asian projects, tightening the domestic labour supply,” the spokesperson added, citing ongoing supply delays on key routes.
Customers, according to L&T, have shown a willingness to absorb higher costs stemming from these disruptions, even in fixed‑price contracts. The firm is actively identifying alternative routes to keep projects on track.
Looking ahead, L&T remains focused on sustaining its order momentum while addressing execution risks. The management reiterated its goal to expand in data‑centre and defence sectors, with a particular emphasis on the Zorawar light‑tank programme and potential coal‑gasification projects.
