The Hindu EducationPlus organised a career counselling session for pre-university students at Shaheen Parvaz Hall in Bidar on Saturday, May 9, 2026, bringing together nine professionals from medicine, engineering, commerce, and career guidance to discuss viable career paths. The event aimed to equip students with practical knowledge about higher education and employment opportunities, focusing on informed and individualised career planning.
Abdul Nasir Mauzam, a career counsellor from CIGMA, urged students to assess their aptitude and interests before choosing a career, advocating for lesser-known fields such as physiotherapy, AYUSH, nursing, and lifestyle therapy. He emphasized that while information is abundant today, students must make independent decisions and avoid imitating others. Sachin Gudge, associate professor at Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences, outlined the demands of a medical career, noting the 12-14 years of formal training and the necessity of lifelong learning, while highlighting NEET as the single entrance pathway for UG and PG medical courses.
Parvat Bijaspur, a Chartered Accountant, promoted commerce careers, stating that the CA course offers national recognition at low cost and can lead to a minimum starting salary of ₹36 lakh. Vinita Balbhim Patil, principal of Lingaraj Appa College of Engineering, addressed AI's impact on engineering but affirmed the continued relevance of core engineering disciplines. Dayanand J., CET nodal officer, advised students to base college and course selections on rank cut-offs and self-evaluation rather than external influence.
Ramesh Kulkarni, chairman of Sri Mata Manikeshwari PU College, stressed character development over career building and encouraged students to overcome setbacks, citing his own academic failure and recovery in mathematics. He also called for a shift in perception about Bidar as a backward region and warned against social media addiction.
The session concluded with students receiving practical guidance on higher education admissions and career planning. The Hindu EducationPlus said follow-up sessions are planned across Karnataka to support student decision-making ahead of the 2026 academic admissions cycle.
