China President Xi Jinping fainted during the BRICS summit in New Delhi on May 28, 2026, and was airlifted back to China for emergency medical treatment, ending his visit early.
Chairman Wanjun Xie of the China Democratic Party posted on X that the president received immediate treatment from his medical team before being transferred to a special aircraft.
The BRICS gathering, held in New Delhi, was set to showcase cooperation among Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, and Xi had been slated to deliver a keynote speech to the 40 delegates.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs said it was aware of the incident and that the Chinese delegation was receiving assistance from local medical staff.
The Chinese government is expected to issue an official statement later today, while the Indian side may issue a statement of condolence and medical support.
