The National Institute of Technology-Calicut (NIT-C) is revamping its MTech programmes in Mechanical Engineering and launching two new interdisciplinary programmes for the 2026-27 academic year, according to NIT-C officials. The revamped programme introduces a comprehensive set of specialisations aimed at addressing the current and future needs of the engineering sector.
The updated MTech curricula are structured as a two-year, full-time programme integrating advanced technologies such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, and digital automation. V. Madhusudanan Pillai, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, says the rapidly evolving industrial demands and technological advancements have expanded the scope of the core Mechanical Engineering discipline.
The two new MTech programmes introduced are Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and Operations Research and Data Analytics, which addresses the growing demand for data-driven decision-making. A.V. Babu, Dean Academic of the institute, says this transformation aims to bridge the gap between traditional academic approaches and current industry requirements.
Admissions to the programmes will be offered through two distinct schemes, with candidates having the option to apply through the centralised counselling process or the self-sponsored scheme. The institute will start accepting applications soon, with interested candidates able to access detailed information through the NIT-C admissions portal. The court will not be involved in this matter, but the NIT-C admissions committee will oversee the selection process, which is expected to be completed by the end of June.
