Assam Rifles personnel on Saturday secured the release of Olina Ningshen, 45, a woman from Manipur abducted by militants of the Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA-B) and Village Volunteers Eastern Zone during an attack on Tangkhul Naga villages in Kamjong district on May 7. The rescue took place south of Z. Choro village near the India-Myanmar border under the supervision of Assam Rifles and intelligence agencies.
Ningshen was handed over to her husband, the village headman, and civil society representatives at Assam Rifles headquarters in Chassad, followed by documentation and relocation to her village, Khangphat Khn. She and other rescued civilians received medical and psychological support at a paramilitary camp.
Assam Rifles responded to the violence by deploying multiple rescue teams, securing ten damaged houses and evacuating affected civilians to safe locations. Fifteen villagers, including women and children, were rescued and provided humanitarian aid. The force also regained control of the area despite difficult operational conditions.
During follow-up search operations in Churachandpur district, troops apprehended 38-year-old Lal Thag John, a member of KNA-B, and recovered a weapon, magazine, and ammunition. He was handed over to local police. The court will resume hearing on Tuesday.
