FuelBuddy is using artificial intelligence to scale its fuel delivery operations and retain customers as it expands beyond diesel into battery integration and solar-powered energy solutions, CEO India Sunil Maddala told Autocar Professional. The company serves over 10,000 customers annually across 180 Indian cities, including e-commerce, data centres, telecom infrastructure, and mining, with nearly 80% of clients being repeat users.
AI systems monitor fuel dispensing via live video tracking, detect spillage and leaks, forecast demand 7–15 days in advance, and optimise logistics to prevent pilferage, Maddala said. These tools have helped prevent disruptions for more than 40% of customers, with one telecom deployment achieving 8–12% fuel savings. FuelBuddy delivered 8.5–9 crore litres of fuel in India during FY25, generating ₹650 crore in local revenue, while global revenues reached ₹2,500 crore.
The company operates a fleet of over 80 bowser vehicles and partners with petrol pump operators to extend reach. It is piloting a 'power-as-a-service' model, combining diesel generators with battery storage to offer customers energy on an opex basis. Solar integration is also under exploration as part of a layered energy stack.
Maddala noted that while alternative fuels like CNG, LNG, and electric mobility are under evaluation, conventional fuels remain more reliable for now, with large-scale shifts expected in three to five years. FuelBuddy’s focus remains on building a managed, data-driven service layer for energy management rather than betting on any single fuel type.
The company plans to double its fuel delivery volume to around 15 crore litres in the current fiscal and continue expanding its technology team to customise solutions for diverse customer needs.
