Netanyahu’s post, shared on X on Oct 25, 2026, shows a stylised mushroom cloud over Tel Aviv’s skyline, paired with a warning that Iran’s nuclear ambitions threaten Israel’s existence.
The tweet followed a statement by commentator Yuval Blumberg, who framed the image as evidence of an existential threat and urged the state to invest all resources into countering Iran.
Opposition leaders slammed the move. Yair Golan, chair of the Democratic Party, called for Netanyahu’s removal from social media, citing loss of control. Gadi Eisenkot of the Yashar party added that the post was a repeat of fear‑mongering tactics used in past campaigns.
Netanyahu referenced the remaining two years of former President Donald Trump’s administration as a window to finish “the work in Iran,” a statement that raised questions about the influence of U.S. politics on Israeli security policy.
The country will head to the polls on October 29, with parties competing for a 61‑seat majority in the 120‑seat Knesset; the election’s outcome will determine Israel’s approach to the Iran threat.
