PM Modi Marks Anniversary of Operation Sindoor with Social Media Profile Update

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday changed the profile pictures on his official social media accounts on X, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp to mark the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor. The image features the word 'Operation Sindoor' in bold text on a black background, with the Indian tricolour and the letter 'O' in 'SINDOOR' colored in vermilion, symbolizing marital status in Hindu tradition.
Operation Sindoor was conducted by India's armed forces and the Border Security Force (BSF) from May 7 to May 10, 2025, targeting terrorist and military installations across the western border in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The operation was launched in retaliation for the April 22, 2025, terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 25 Hindu tourists and a local guide.
The social media update has drawn public attention to the government's narrative of decisive military response to terrorism. Official sources have not announced any additional commemorative events, but the armed forces are expected to observe the day internally.
The Ministry of Defence has not issued a public statement on the operation's anniversary, but parliamentary discussions on national security are scheduled for later this week.
