Telangana High Court Declines to Stay Ex-DGP's Appointment as State Security Advisor
Published: May 7, 2026
The Telangana High Court has refused to interfere with the appointment of former Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy as State Security Advisor, citing that the government's decision to appoint retired officers as Officers on Special Duty is not subject to court interference. The court's decision comes in response to a writ petition filed by T. Dhangopal Rao, questioning the legality of Reddy's appointment.
The Telangana High Court declined to pass orders on a writ petition seeking to stall the appointment of former Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy as State Security Advisor. Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy heard the interim application filed by T. Dhangopal Rao and decided not to interfere in the matter.
The petitioner had questioned the appointment of Reddy as DGP, contending it was in violation of the law laid down by the Supreme Court in the Prakash Singh case.
The judge noted that the government often appoints retired officers as Officers on Special Duty, and the courts cannot interfere in such decisions.
The hearing of the main petition was adjourned to June 25, and the court will resume hearing on the matter then.
