Deputy Floor Leader of BRS in the Assembly T. Harish Rao said on Sunday that the Telangana government, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, has failed to address the plight of farmers due to delayed procurement of Rabi crops. The delay has resulted in damaged produce, including paddy, maize, and other crops, with farmers in distress across the state.
According to Harish Rao, the government's inaction has led to corruption in the Civil Supplies Corporation, further exacerbating the situation. He cited the example of the Karnalapally purchase centre, where only two lorries have lifted procured paddy in 25 days.
Harish Rao also alleged that Minister for Civil Supplies N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has been speaking lies from his office, and that he should visit procurement centres to understand the troubles faced by farmers. The opposition leader demanded to know why the Chief Minister has not taken action despite receiving reports from the intelligence wing and police departments on the woes of farmers.
The situation is expected to worsen, with procurement of jowar yet to begin and sunflower purchases stopped for 35 days. The government's response to the crisis is awaited, with the opposition calling for immediate action to address the plight of farmers. The state government is likely to face further criticism and protests if the issue is not resolved soon.
