Arthur Blank, co‑founder of Home Depot, has turned a 6,300‑acre stretch of Montana’s Yellowstone River into a public resort. Under his holding company AMB West, the 2026 launch of Auster at Dome Mountain brings 20 year‑round cabins, a main lodge, a casual restaurant, a rooftop bar and a retail market that locals can visit without a reservation. The project marks a shift from Blank’s earlier Ranch acquisitions, which were largely private retreats, non‑profit meeting sites and conservation projects.
Blank acquired the former Dome Mountain Ranch in December 2021, then re‑imagined the 6,300‑acre parcel to preserve the historic footprint. The resort spreads over four and a half miles of river frontage, a 20‑minute drive from Yellowstone’s entrance. Instead of tearing down old cabins, Blank’s team rebuilt them into staff housing, keeping the landscape intact.
AMB West says the 33,000‑acre portfolio is protected by conservation easements that limit large‑scale commercial development. The company notes the area is a vital corridor for elk, grizzly bears, wolves and bighorn sheep moving out of Yellowstone. “We are dedicated to protecting the natural environment and honoring local history through responsible stewardship,” the firm says, echoing the foundation’s mission.
The resort will also serve as a public gathering spot. The restaurant, coffee shop and retail market operate year‑round and can be accessed by anyone, not just resort guests. The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation runs AMB West Basecamp at Mountain Sky, offering free facilities and meeting space to local non‑profits such as the Montana Wildlife Conservation Society.
Reservations for Auster at Dome Mountain opened through the resort’s booking portal ahead of its first public operating season. Guests can already secure a stay and plan to experience fishing, hiking, horseback riding and other outdoor activities that the lodge offers.
