Shots rang out from a distance as Shroff walked toward his BMW, the crowd erupting in cheers—he paused, waved, and climbed into the car, only to hear a sharp "boom" as bullets fired. The three assailants, who opened fire in a hail of seven rounds, fled on a motorcycle that was abandoned near Andheri West station before they boarded the train to Borivali.
Umesh Chauhan, a 38‑year‑old vlogger, was struck in the chest as the gunfire erupted. He was taken to King Edward Memorial Hospital, where doctors confirmed a bullet still lodged in his lung. His wife, nine months pregnant, has not been informed about the incident, and the family claims the hospital is not providing adequate care.
Police identified the attackers: 22‑year‑old Hritik alias Roshan from Begusarai, 18‑year‑old Rehan and 18‑year‑old Phool Singh from Haryana. All three were intercepted on a train in Kota, Rajasthan, on Monday after their vehicle was found abandoned near Andheri West.
The Mumbai Police say the trio were linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, known for targeting Bollywood personalities. Chief Superintendent Rajesh Patel told reporters that the investigation is now focused on tracing the gang’s network and whether they had assistance from a fourth accomplice.
Shroff, who escaped unhurt, posted a short video from the hospital, thanking the police and urging calm. A court hearing is scheduled for next Friday, where the suspects will face charges of attempted murder and firearms offences.
