The Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) and Dhare Foundation have launched an environmental mission to plant five crore saplings across Karnataka over the next three to four years. The mission includes the 'Bengaluru-Green Ring' initiative, which will plant two crore saplings within a 50-km radius of Vidhana Soudha.
The saplings will be planted in three zones: the urban core zone, peri-urban belt, and rural-forest zone, with a focus on restoring biodiversity and combating pollution. KSLSA will facilitate the identification of government lands and coordination with the State Forest Department, while Dhare Foundation will provide financing and deploy volunteers for plantation, monitoring, and preservation.
The project will adopt scientific plantation models, including the Miyawaki method, agro-forestry, and avenue plantations, and will also include the rejuvenation of Karnataka's 45,000 lakes through desilting, feeder channel restoration, and plantation around water bodies.
The court is not involved in this project, however, the KSLSA and Dhare Foundation will continue to work together to ensure the success of the mission. The next steps will involve the implementation of the project, with the planting of saplings expected to begin soon.
