The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted the formation of a low-pressure system over the southwest Bay of Bengal, under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over the Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Sri Lanka. The system is expected to bring light showers, thunderstorms, and lightning to coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema until May 14.
The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has issued a caution, advising people to avoid staying in open areas and to take shelter in safe buildings due to the expected widespread thunderstorms. Farmers have been advised to take necessary precautions during agricultural activities.
The APSDMA has identified specific districts where light showers, thunderstorms, and lightning are likely to occur on Monday, including Parvathipuram-Manyam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, and East Godavari, among others.
The authorities will continue to monitor the weather situation, and the public has been advised to stay informed and follow the instructions of local authorities. The APSDMA will provide updates on the weather forecast and any necessary precautions to be taken.
