Basavaraj Dhareppa Kempawad from Athani in Belagavi has secured the all-India first rank in the UPSC Indian Forest Service examination, whose results were declared on Saturday. He stood first among the 148 total recommended candidates across the country.
Kempawad is a forestry sciences graduate from the College of Forestry in Sirsi of Uttara Kannada and achieved this feat in his second attempt.
According to Kempawad, he comes from an ordinary farming family in a rural area and cleared the examination without resorting to any special courses.
The UPSC Indian Forest Service examination results were declared on Saturday, and Kempawad's success is expected to inspire several other youth to attempt such examinations. He expressed happiness at seeing his family members and villagers happy about his success.
The Union Public Service Commission will likely proceed with the next steps in the selection process, including interviews and medical tests, for the selected candidates, including Kempawad.
