The high‑tea gathering at Rahul Gandhi’s Delhi home on Tuesday drew a cross‑party coalition of 15 leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, RJD chief Tejashwi Yadav, JMM MP Mahua Maji, CPI‑M’s M A Baby, and AISA chief Neha Bora, all united under the banner of “We the People versus the BJP.”
The core of the discussion centred on the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, a process that has sparked nationwide protests after reports of duplicated names, erroneous entries and alleged voter dilution that critics say could tilt the 2024 general election in favor of the ruling party.
Gandhi emphasized that the bloc’s protests aim to restore democracy and that the Election Commission’s integrity is under scrutiny, citing mounting evidence of procedural lapses that could compromise free and fair polls.
AISA chief Neha Bora described the protests as a collective struggle, warning that any attempt by the BJP to erode democratic foundations would provoke a nationwide backlash and that citizens would not remain silent.
The bloc has pledged to keep the pressure on, with a series of street rallies scheduled across Delhi in the coming weeks and plans to file a petition with the Supreme Court to challenge the SIR process.
