The Fisher House Foundation inaugurated a 12‑suite, 11,400‑sq‑ft Fisher House in Montrose, New York, on a campus of the VA Hudson Valley Healthcare System.
The home sits within walking distance of Franklin Delano Roosevelt Hospital’s inpatient units, mental‑health programs and residential‑rehabilitation services, allowing relatives to stay close without long commutes.
Each suite is wheelchair‑accessible, with a private bedroom and bathroom, and the facility also houses a shared kitchen, dining area, family rooms, laundry facility and an outdoor patio where veterans and their families can mingle and find support.
The Fisher House Foundation covers construction and furnishings, while local donors and businesses raise the remaining half of the cost, a partnership model that embeds the house in the community.
The 12 suites can accommodate up to 24 family members at a time, and the Foundation estimates that full occupancy will save families about $700,000 a year in lodging expenses, a relief that could keep loved ones near during lengthy mental‑health or rehabilitation stays.
This Montrose location marks the fourth Fisher House in New York, joining Albany and two Bronx sites, and expands a national network of 100 homes that provide free lodging to eligible veterans and their families.
