US Man Arrested After 30 Years for 1993 Double Murder in Front of Toddler
TAMPA, Florida - US authorities have arrested a Florida man accused of fatally shooting a Bronx couple in 1993 during a drug robbery, a crime witnessed by their three-year-old child. William Antonio Solis, 62, was taken into custody last month in Tampa by the New York Police Department (NYPD) and charged with intentional killing while engaged in a narcotics conspiracy.
Federal prosecutors allege Solis and two accomplices targeted Luis Guerrero, described as a narcotics supplier, in a planned robbery at his Bronx apartment on June 21, 1993. Guerrero was restrained while drugs were stolen, and his wife, Danis Sime, was lured into the apartment and tied up before both were shot in the head.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated Solis "allegedly executed two New Yorkers in cold blood over 30 years ago, right in front of their three-year-old child." Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) New York Acting Special Agent in Charge Michael Alfonso said Solis had spent decades "hiding in plain sight" in Florida, more than 1,000 miles from the crime scene.
The charge against Solis carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years in prison, with a maximum penalty of life imprisonment or death if convicted. The case is expected to proceed in federal court, with further legal proceedings pending.
