Rahul Gandhi, the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition, led a delegation that included Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and TMC head Mamata Banerjee to the Presidential Office in New Delhi on a Friday. They handed over a memorandum that names Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar as conspirators in the 2024 elections.
Gandhi, visibly shaken, called the meeting "unbelievable". He said, "I expected the President to defend the integrity of our electoral system, but instead she accepted our allegations and asked for proof of the fraud."
The President replied that while she did not refute the claims, she required concrete evidence before any action could be taken. She stated, "Provide the proof of vote chori and we will review it in the proper forum."
The memorandum labels the 2024 elections as a "vote chori" or election theft, a charge that could trigger a formal investigation by the Election Commission. The next step will be the Commission’s assessment of the evidence presented and the possibility of a judicial review of the electoral process.
