On Friday, Suvendu Adhikari slammed Mamata Banerjee for allegedly faking a leg injury in 2021 while campaigning in Nandigram, demanding a probe by the state government.
A hospital report from the Bangur Institute of Neurosciences dated March 11, 2021, lists no fracture or dislocation in Banerjee’s leg, a point Adhikari highlighted during a press conference at Nabanna.
Trinamool MLA Kunal Ghosh fired back, calling the accusation “unwarranted” and stressing that the injury was real, citing doctors who treated Banerjee and a local farmer who witnessed the incident.
The by‑polls for Nandigram and Rejinagar are set for October 6, with a projected 70% turnout; the result will determine the balance of power in the West Bengal assembly.
The government will launch a CID investigation once the election code of conduct lapses, and any evidence of misinformation could trigger disciplinary or legal measures against the parties involved. Local farmer Ramesh Kumar, who claims to have seen the alleged push, says he fears the drama will distract voters from pressing development issues.
