Rajasthan Royals' head coach Kumar Sangakkara has expressed concerns over the newly installed LED floodlights at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, stating that the stronger glare and altered light conditions have caused difficulties for fielders. The issue came to light during the team's clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad, with several uncharacteristic dropped catches sparking discussion among players and experts.
The new LED floodlights, which offer higher brightness and better visibility, were installed at the venue just before the start of the 2026 season, with a maximum lux level of 3500, a significant upgrade from the previous level.
Sangakkara acknowledged the adjustment period for fielders, saying that the team has been working with the ground authorities to find the right adjustment to make the fielders comfortable.
The stadium's management has made adjustments to the lighting system, including lowering or extending the direction of the lights, which seemed to have improved the situation in the second game. The team and stadium authorities will continue to monitor the situation and make further adjustments as needed.
