Edappadi K. Palaniswami, general secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), has formally congratulated the incoming Tamil Nadu government after the 2026 Legislative Assembly elections. In an official statement, Palaniswami acknowledged the election results and extended his 'heartiest congratulations' to the party forming the new administration.
The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor C. Joseph Vijay, emerged as the single-largest party by winning 108 of the 234 Assembly seats, falling short of the 118 needed for a simple majority. Parties in the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA), including the Congress, CPI, and CPI(M), have pledged support to Vijay's coalition to form the government.
The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) has not yet announced whether it will support the TVK-led government. The Election Commission is expected to invite Vijay to form the government once formal proof of majority support is submitted. The swearing-in ceremony is likely within the week.
