Rahul Gandhi posted on X on 28 September 2026, flagging the removal of 727 Bela Estate voters and calling the action a form of vote theft.
The Election Commission explained that the residents had been displaced after their houses were demolished in 2022‑23, and that their "ordinary resident" status had changed under section 20(7) of the RP Act, justifying the deletion.
Gandhi has long demanded the dismissal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, citing earlier clashes over voter list revisions and inclusion of new voters.
The Delhi office, headed by CEO Prabhu, replied that the matter had already been addressed by the concerned ERO and extended the objection filing period to 30 October 2026.
For residents like Ramesh Kumar, who voted in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the exclusion means losing the right to vote despite decades of residency.
The ERO will now review each claim, and the final decision on the 727 names will be announced by early November.
