Fariba Hashimi secured a silver medal in the Asian Games women's road race, crossing the line in a blistering sprint finish against a field of 34 competitors—0.8 seconds behind the winner.
Hashimi, 23, now trains in Italy, but her journey began in Kabul where she and her sister Yulduz rode in secret, disguised as men to dodge the Taliban's crackdown—stealth rides, stone‑pelted roads, and a dream that never died.
She recalled the day she was pelted with stones on a dusty road—"I was born inside a country where the women who dream are getting attacked," she said, eyes still brimming with that raw, unbroken fire.
That memory fuels her drive. She hopes the medal sparks a new generation of Afghan women to chase their own dreams, unafraid and unshackled.
Looking ahead, Hashimi eyes the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, determined to bring home another medal and prove that talent transcends borders.
