Police in Rajasthan’s Salasar have taken the main shooter in the murder of Punjab anti‑drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota into custody, the Rajasthan Police Commissioner said on Wednesday.
Jhota, who had been campaigning against the illegal sale of addictive medicines, was shot dead in broad daylight at a medical store in Mansa last week. The confrontation erupted when he confronted the shop owner over suspected sales of addictive drugs to an elderly man.
Meanwhile, police in Mansa began demolishing a house linked to the accused, with a JCB machine arriving at the site. Mansa SSP Vaibhav Chaudhary said police were maintaining law and order while the local administration decided how much of the house would be demolished.
The killing sparked protests in Mansa, with activists demanding swift action and calling for a crackdown on the drug trade. A local resident, 45‑year‑old shopkeeper Ramesh Kumar, said he had seen the confrontation unfold and felt the community was being left to fend for itself.
The police are preparing to file charges against the arrested shooter and will present the case to the Mansa district court in the coming weeks.
