India finished fourth in the overall medal tally with 85 medals, but the real story is the age gap between the two men who bookended the team's success.
On one end, 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi became India's youngest-ever Asian Games gold medallist. He was part of the cricket squad that beat Pakistan by 19 runs in the final. Sooryavanshi opened with two sixes before Saim Ayub dismissed him for 15 off nine balls. It was a fleeting but electric debut on the biggest stage.
At the other extreme, 50-year-old Mairaj Ahmad Khan made history. The two-time Olympian won bronze in men's skeet shooting alongside Anantjeet Singh Naruka and Bhavtegh Singh Gill. It was Khan's first Asian Games medal, capping a 20-year international career.
The performance was broader than just these two. Kumkum Mohod became the first Indian woman to win individual recurve gold. Pranavi Urs and Neeru Dhanda also broke barriers in golf and trap shooting. India's men's and women's hockey teams both won gold, a first for the nation at a multi-sport event.
