A Nashik court on Friday remanded Nida Khan to police custody till May 11 in a case of alleged sexual exploitation and forcible conversion at the Tata Consultancy Services office. Khan was arrested by the Nashik police in a joint operation with the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Police.
The police have also booked an AIMIM corporator from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on charges of allegedly harbouring Khan while she absconded from the law. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that it was clear the AIMIM corporator had helped Khan hide from the police.
The prosecution told the court that they needed to question Khan about whether she had been given any financial aid for carrying out the alleged crime and whether she had promised to send the victim to Malaysia. The police also said they needed to conduct a chemical analysis of Khan's phone as the accused had allegedly used the device to send links regarding religious conversion to others.
The case has led to a war of words between AIMIM leader Imtiyaz Jaleel and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Guardian Minister Sanjay Shirsat of the Shiv Sena. Shirsat demanded that Jaleel be quizzed about any possible association with Khan, while Jaleel hit back, asking if Shirsat was the police. The court will resume hearing on the case, with the police set to continue their investigation and the prosecution preparing to present further evidence.
