Taylor Swift Calls Trademark Suit Over Album Title 'Absurd'

Taylor Swift's legal team has responded to a trademark lawsuit filed by former Las Vegas performer Maren Flagg, labelling the claims as 'absurd'. Flagg, who performs as Maren Wade, filed the lawsuit in March, alleging that Swift's album title 'The Life of a Showgirl' is too similar to her trademarked phrase 'Confessions of a Showgirl', which she registered in 2015.
According to the complaint, both titles share the same structure and phrase, and are marketed within the entertainment industry to similar audiences. However, Swift's attorneys argue that the comparison is 'absurd' and that there is no realistic chance audiences would confuse the two brands.
Swift's team also questioned why Flagg waited nearly eight months after the album announcement to seek emergency legal action, and alleged that Flagg repeatedly used Swift's branding after the album reveal, including posting over 40 social media updates referencing Swift and the album title.
The court will review the lawsuit and determine the next steps, with Flagg's attorney stating that they will move forward with the case.
