RITES Ltd dispatched a 18‑coach LHB rake to Bangladesh Railway on Oct 12, 2026 from its Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala, Punjab. The set contains 11 non‑AC Shovan chair cars, three AC chair cars, two AC sleeper coaches and two AC power cars that house a guard room and luggage space.
The move builds on a partnership that began in 2015‑16 when RITES supplied 120 LHB coaches to Bangladesh, and it follows a 2024 order for 200 coaches. RITES, a Navratna public‑sector enterprise, has delivered more than 280 locomotives and 1,085 coaches worldwide.
Bangladesh Railway’s coaches feature a range of passenger‑centric amenities: integrated CCTV, a baby care room, a prayer room and reclining seats with stainless‑steel armrests. The design also incorporates reinforced roofs, a crash‑worthy body meeting European Standard EN 15227, and a 415‑V electrical system adapted to Bangladesh’s network.
According to the Ministry of Railways, the coaches are tailored to Bangladesh’s operating conditions, aiming to improve comfort for daily commuters and travelers on the country’s broad‑gauge network.
The remaining 182 coaches will arrive in subsequent shipments, expanding Bangladesh Railway’s fleet and enhancing cross‑border connectivity in the coming years.
