Man Shaves Head After 15-Year No-Haircut Vow, Citing End of Trinamool Rule

Baneshwar Barman, a resident of Baman Para village in Cooch Behar district, West Bengal, shaved his head on Thursday after fulfilling a political vow he made in 2011 to not cut his hair as long as the All India Trinamool Congress remained in power. The 15-year protest ended after the BJP-led alliance secured a majority in the state assembly elections.
Barman, a migrant worker at brick kilns and known local BJP supporter, said he had avoided barbershops since Trinamool came to power. "Since the Trinamool government came, I haven't even touched a barber's shop," he said. He added that he tied his hair in a bun to manage it during work.
The haircut took place near his home, drawing neighbors and onlookers. After the shave, family and villagers distributed puffed rice (muri) in celebration. Barman attributed his protest to a lack of development in the area over the past 15 years and said his family had struggled under the previous administration.
Barman stated he plans to resume normal life now that the political change he anticipated has occurred. "Now that the BJP is here, new hair will grow. I'll cut it whenever I want," he said. The court will resume hearing on Tuesday.
