Israeli Strike Kills Senior Hezbollah Commander in Beirut

Israeli warplanes targeted a building in the Ghobeiri district of Beirut's southern suburbs on Wednesday, killing Malek Ballout, the operations commander of Hezbollah's elite Radwan force. A Lebanese security source confirmed the strike hit an apartment during a meeting of Radwan leaders. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu verified the military operation, which marks the first strike on the Lebanese capital since April 8.
The Lebanese health ministry reported at least 11 additional fatalities from Israeli strikes across southern and eastern Lebanon, including a strike in Saksakiyeh that wounded 33 people. The National News Agency (NNA) reported multiple attacks in the town of Yater and other southern regions. The Israeli military stated that an explosive drone impact in southern Lebanon wounded four of its soldiers, one severely, during the same period.
The escalation comes despite a truce in effect since April 17, which permits Israeli action against perceived imminent threats. World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus reported that 152 attacks on Lebanese healthcare facilities have resulted in 103 deaths and the closure of 41 primary health centers since March. Israeli army chief Eyal Zamir, visiting troops in southern Lebanon, stated the military would continue to dismantle Hezbollah infrastructure regardless of the current 'yellow line' boundaries.
U.S. President Donald Trump indicated a high probability of reaching a peace agreement with Iran, which could influence the regional conflict. Meanwhile, the Israeli military maintains it will continue operations to weaken Hezbollah's capabilities as the Lebanese health ministry monitors the rising casualty toll.
