India has emerged as a significant hub for app innovation, according to Apple, driven by a mix of global ambition, entrepreneurship, and student participation. Susan Prescott, vice president of worldwide developer relations at Apple, stated that the company is excited to see a rapidly growing developer community in India, with many developers creating apps with both local and global impact.
The App Store ecosystem in India facilitated Rs 44,447 crore in billings and sales in 2024, while global earnings of India-based developers have tripled over the last five years, with close to 80% of earnings generated by Indian developers now coming from users outside the country.
The Apple Developer Center in Bengaluru has played a key role in supporting the growth of the developer ecosystem in India, providing technical guidance and fostering a sense of community among developers.
The center has become an important hub for Indian developers, with over 17,000 developers associated with it, and has helped apps developed in India reach a global audience, with over 755 million downloads worldwide through the App Store in 2024.
Looking ahead, Apple is expected to continue its efforts to support the growth of the developer ecosystem in India, with the company's Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) 2026 likely to provide further opportunities for Indian developers to showcase their apps and connect with the global developer community.
