The 55‑year‑old assistant’s body lay on the narrow corridor of the first‑floor apartment at Chikkadapally, the city’s South‑Hyderabad residential block, between 7.30 and 8 p.m. Wednesday. He had been taken to a local hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival after a head injury.
According to the police, the incident followed a confrontation with a 23‑year‑old woman living on the second floor. She alleged that the assistant had “misbehaved” with her earlier that evening, prompting her to call a gym trainer—an on‑site fitness instructor—who, after learning of the complaint, confronted the assistant.
The trainer allegedly punched the assistant in the face, sending him to the floor. A police officer on the scene said the assistant collapsed, and the trainer fled. Both parties were later arrested at the police station.
The Chikkadapally police registered two separate cases. One, on the wife’s complaint, charges the trainer with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The other, filed by the assistant’s wife, accuses the deceased of misbehaviour and seeks accountability for the incident.
Investigators have taken the matter under scrutiny, and the assistant’s next of kin have expressed shock at the sudden death. A hearing is slated for early October, where the trainer will face charges and the case will be heard by the local magistrate.
