Congress Criticizes DMK, AIADMK Amid Alliance Speculation in Tamil Nadu
The Congress has criticized the DMK and AIADMK, saying they became allies overnight to stop one man, in a reference to Vijay's TVK. Congress's Manickam Tagore tweeted that the party had rightly left the alliance, citing the DMK's potential partnership with the RSS/BJP B-team.
The DMK and AIADMK are considering an alliance as Vijay's TVK scrambles to get the numbers to prove majority, after winning 108 seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
The Congress, with its five seats, has extended its support officially to the TVK, taking the party's Assembly tally up to 113.
The CPM state secretary TT Shanmugam said that the TVK should be invited to form the government, citing the Constitution. The party will decide on its stance on supporting Vijay within two days.
The TVK's 108 MLAs have threatened to resign if the DMK and AIADMK attempt to stake claim to form the government, amid suspicions that the two parties are working together to stop TVK's bid for government formation. The Governor will likely play a crucial role in the next steps, with the TVK awaiting an invitation to form the government.
