PM Modi Marks First Anniversary of Operation Sindoor With Social Media Post
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday marked the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor by changing his X profile picture to a commemorative image honoring the military strike. Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7, 2024, in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, mostly Indian tourists, in Jammu and Kashmir.
Indian forces conducted airstrikes on nine terrorist facilities across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, including bases linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke, eliminating approximately 100 terrorists, according to official statements. The operation targeted camps in Mehmoona Joya, Sawai Nala, Syed Na Bilal, Gulpur, Abbas, Barnala, and Sarjal.
Pakistan responded with retaliatory strikes on Indian military and civilian installations, which India stated were successfully intercepted. Tensions subsided by May 10 after direct communication between Indian and Pakistani army officials via the established hotline, leading to a mutual halt in military actions.
Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s firm stance against terrorism, stating that the nation remains committed to dismantling terror ecosystems and will hold both perpetrators and enablers accountable. He credited the operation with demonstrating the integration, preparedness, and self-reliance of India’s armed forces.
The government has indicated that policy on cross-border terrorism remains unchanged, and military readiness will be sustained; no official announcements have been made regarding new operations.
