Two Arrested for Temple Theft in Tirupattur
Two individuals, identified as K. Raja, 40, and V. Tamilselvan, 27, were arrested on Thursday for stealing from a temple in Parsanapalli village, near Ambur town in Tirupattur. The stolen items include 10 sovereigns of gold jewellery, silver and brass objects, and cash.
The theft was discovered when devotees found the temple's door lock broken and the gold jewellery on the deity missing. The lock of the hundi, a donation box, was also broken, and cash had been stolen.
According to police, the isolated location of the temple may have prompted the burglars to commit the crime. The arrests were made after analyzing CCTV footage in the area and with the help of residents who noticed the suspects leaving the temple.
The arrested individuals, who work as wage labourers at a private tannery, were nabbed at a hideout in the village. A case has been registered by Ambur police, and the duo has been lodged at the sub-jail in Tirupattur town.
The police will continue their investigation, and further probe is underway. The court will likely hear the case in the coming days, although no date has been announced yet.
