Maharashtra Couple Sold One-Month-Old for Rs 10.9 Lakh, Baby Rescued from Hyderabad

Parents Ramesh K. and Sangeeta B. from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar sold their one‑month‑old son for Rs 10.9 lakh on 20 September. Police rescued the baby in Hyderabad and arrested the parents and four intermediaries, with the case now under investigation.
On 20 September, parents Ramesh K. and Sangeeta B. from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar sold their one‑month‑old son to an intermediary for Rs 10.9 lakh, according to police.
The chain of sales began when the parents handed the infant to Seema Reshwal for Rs 1.2 lakh, who then sold him to Sangeeta Avhad for Rs 2.7 lakh.
Avhad transferred the child to a supposed doctor, Suresh Guntuka, who passed him on to Uma Khatkam in Hyderabad for Rs 3.5 lakh.
Police traced the baby to Hyderabad, where a rescue operation recovered the infant from Khatkam's residence on the same day.
The parents, along with Reshwal, Avhad, Guntuka and Khatkam, have been arrested under Sections 304A and 336 of the Penal Code, and the case has been filed.
Authorities seized two expensive mobile phones and a gold chain purchased with the proceeds, and are investigating whether the intermediaries have trafficked other children.
The baby is currently under hospital care, with the family to be reunited after a court hearing scheduled for October 15.
