Actor-politician Vijay, chief of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is expected to be sworn in as Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister on May 9, following reported support from DMK allies CPI, CPI(M), and likely the VCK, sources said. Vijay is scheduled to meet Governor Rajendra Arlekar this evening to formally stake claim to form the government, marking his third meeting with the Governor in 48 hours.
The political development comes amid ongoing efforts to break the post-election deadlock after no single party secured a clear majority in the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The backing of CPI, CPI(M), and potentially the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) provides the TVK-led coalition with sufficient legislative support to claim governance.
The Governor is expected to review the claims and convene a session of the newly elected Assembly in the coming days. The swearing-in ceremony, if confirmed, will mark Vijay's formal transition from cinema to chief executive of Tamil Nadu.
