Punjab BJP president Ashwani Sharma on Sunday accused Aam Aadmi Party workers and leaders, including Balachaur MLA Sukhwinder Sukhi, of assaulting BJP leaders and vandalizing the party's district office in Balachaur during a political protest. Sharma alleged the incident occurred in the presence of police, who failed to intervene and instead escorted the protestors.
The protest was part of AAP's statewide demonstrations against Enforcement Directorate action targeting Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora. Sharma condemned what he called a pattern of 'misconduct and intimidation' by AAP supporters, citing similar incidents in Ludhiana. He challenged AAP's stance on central investigations, accusing the party of hypocrisy for supporting vigilance actions against opposition figures while opposing ED probes into its own leaders.
Sharma accused Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's government of politicizing law enforcement and fostering a climate of political aggression. He rejected AAP leaders' recent allegations linking the BJP to Pakistan's ISI, demanding legal proof instead of public accusations. The BJP chief asserted the party would not be intimidated by what he described as AAP's aggressive political tactics.
Sharma announced he would personally visit the Balachaur Senior Superintendent of Police office to demand registration of a case. The Punjab police have not yet confirmed the allegations or announced any investigation.
