Tanuj Chopra Hired to Steer The Royals Season 2 After Two Directors Quit

Netflix’s regal drama The Royals has just lost two directors in quick succession, leaving the helm open for a new creative voice. — The first two changes were abrupt: Jasmeet K. Reen departed just days after filming started in Rajasthan, citing “scripting and execution issues” that she felt were hard to reconcile. An insider told Variety India that Mitakshara Kumar’s vision clashed with the team’s expectations, leading to an amicable exit as well.

Tanuj Chopra, whose fingerprints left Delhi Crime’s gritty second and third seasons, has been tapped to guide the new chapter. His track record suggests a knack for balancing sharp dialogue with nuanced character arcs, a skill set that could counter the past production hiccups. The move to Mumbai also signals a fresh aesthetic, as the city’s bustling streets could offer a contrasting backdrop to the opulent palaces of Rajasthan.

The cast lineup remains star‑packed: Ishaan Khatter reprises his princely role, joined by Gurfateh Pirzada and Sini Shetty, who bring fresh energy to the ensemble. Bhumi Pednekar, who anchored the first season’s romantic subplot, is noticeably absent, hinting at a shift in narrative focus. Critics and fans alike are curious whether Chopra will lean into the political intrigue or stick with the show’s original blend of romance and royalty.

As shooting resumes, the buzz isn’t just about who’s directing but how the new vision will play out on screen. The real test will be whether Chopra can weave the show’s regal glamour with the sharp, socially‑charged tone that made Delhi Crime a talking point. Stay tuned as The Royals 2 rolls out its next chapter, promising a blend of palace intrigue and Mumbai‑style grit.
