Vijay has been invited to form the government in Tamil Nadu after demonstrating majority support before Governor Rajendra Arlekar, who accepted letters of support from the TVK-led coalition. The alliance, comprising 107 TVK MLAs, 5 Congress, 4 Left (CPI and CPI-M), and 4 from VCK and IUML, reached 120 seats, surpassing the required 118 in the 234-member Assembly.
Arlekar reviewed support letters from VCK and IUML during the evening meeting at Lok Bhavan on Saturday, having already seen those from Congress and the Left. After verifying the documents, the governor asked Vijay to propose a date and time for the swearing-in, which was set for 10 am Sunday at Nehru Stadium in Chennai.
Vijay remained at the governor's residence for an hour after the meeting, awaiting the formal letter of appointment, which he received before departing. He was accompanied by allies from Congress, CPI(M), CPI, and VCK, who were served refreshments during the meeting.
The atmosphere during the meeting included informal moments, with allied leaders conducting video calls with family members and inviting Vijay to speak with their children. Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi is expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony.
The ceremony will proceed as scheduled on Sunday morning, marking the transition to the new administration following the Assembly elections.
